Halloween weekend is here and so is the darkness when daylight savings time ends Sunday. Soon it will be dark when we go to work and when we come home from work too. Why don’t we just set the clocks back 5 hours? I don’t know about you, but I would rather work all day in the dark and come home with a few hours of daylight. While light is on my mind, one thing I have done is switch out all the lights in my house from regular light bulbs to Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL’s). Most people call these the swirly or curly lights. “They” say CFL’s use 75% less electricity than regular light bulbs and last 10 times longer. “They” also say CFL’s save $30 of electricity costs over their life. Doing the math, a CFL costs about $3, 30-3 is 27, so they should save $27 each. I’ll let you know if my electric bill goes down. I can’t end this entry here, my conscience says I have to tell you how to recycle your old CFL’s, because there are a few duds out there too. Recycle them for free at Menards, Home Depot, and the Hennepin County Recycling Center (www.hennepin.us keyword search “drop off”).
